Security Innovation donates application security eLearning
to foil cyber
attackers
Security-Conscious organizations can take 60-minute course anytime
from August 12 through August 14
Wilmington, MA - Responding to a continued
rise in cyber attacks, software security expert Security Innovation is
waiving the access fee to its newest eLearning course, “Software
Security Awareness,” for a limited time. The course is suitable for any
employee of any organization with a commitment to building a culture of
security awareness around secure software development.
“Software Security Awareness” is a 60-minute online self-paced course
that illustrates the importance of software security, the stakes
involved, and the best practices for minimizing software risks. Although
the course sells for $295 per seat per year, Security Innovation will
make the course free to anyone Wednesday, August 12 through Friday,
August 14. Simply visit
http://elearning.securityinnovation.com, provide basic contact
information, and begin taking the course immediately.
“Security threats are soaring, attacks are succeeding at unprecedented
rates, and the human factor remains the biggest vulnerability in
information security today,” said Security Innovation CEO Ed Adams. “Too
many practitioners are unaware of the simple steps they can take to
build and deploy more secure software and make the cyber attacker’s job
more difficult. The business and technical need for security awareness
is urgent, and we’re in a position to help. So we are helping.”
“Software Security Awareness” explores the following topics:
-
identifying security activities for every role within the development organization
-
root causes, risks and consequences of software vulnerabilities
-
recognizing threats to critical assets
-
best practices for managing software security risk in the development lifecycle
Security awareness: a growing need
More electronic records were breached in 2008 than the previous four
years combined, according to the “2009 Verizon Business Data Breach
Investigations Report” (DBIR) released April 15. The breaches, some of
the largest cyber crimes ever, have been fueled by a targeting of the
financial services industry and a strong involvement of organized crime,
the report says.
The report also makes a strong case for basic security awareness:
“Verizon Business investigative experts found … that nearly nine out of
10 breaches were considered avoidable if security basics had been
followed,” says a news release about the report.
