SECURITY INNOVATION
INTRODUCES NEW COURSES TO
SECURITY EDUCATION AND QUALITY E-LEARNING SERIES
Customized Security Education Curriculum Saves Time, Money;
Offers Continuous Practical Knowledge to Developers, Testers,
Auditors & Integrators
Wilmington, MA—June 6, 2006 - Security
Innovation, the independent authority on application security
development and assessment, today introduced the first three courses
to its security education and quality e-learning series. These
courses address the needs of developers, testers, auditors and
integrators who must solve security problems at the desktop and
prior to product release. Each e-learning course offers an average
of 14 hours of training content with hands-on labs that can be
customized to specific customer settings. Security Innovation is
working on additional expansions including security awareness
training for management and non-technical teams.
“Many organizations have thousands of developers, testers,
architects and analysts to train. Traditional training methods don’t
scale to those numbers in a cost- or time-efficient manner,” said Ed
Adams, CEO of Security Innovation. “E-learning has freed our clients
from the burden of live instructor-led training when they have
sufficiently customized or vetted a class for mass consumption. Our
clients are able to use a combination of live instructor-led
training, particularly at the pilot phase, and e-learning to
effectively roll out security awareness and development best
practices to large audiences worldwide.”
Over the past year, Security Innovation has customized dozens of
courses for its clients and is currently adapting e-learning
curricula for several enterprise organizations. “Five Fortune 100
companies have acquired an e-learning course from Security
Innovation, and we expect to have many more, penetrating fully our
target base, of which two-thirds are either Global 500 or Fortune
500,” added Adams.
Security Innovation builds curriculum around its extensive expertise
in application security including the company’s publications, “How
to Break Software Security” and “The Software Vulnerability Guide.”
The online courses feature Chief Security Strategist Herbert H.
Thompson, Ph.D., a world-renowned expert on secure application
testing and development, who conveys his knowledge in a practical
way.
“In the business world, there is a lack of good application security
knowledge. Developers, testers and CSOs are hungry for resources and
effective educational programs, yet face tight budgets and strict
time constraints,” said Dr. Thompson. “We are seeing a growing
demand for a hybrid approach, combining face-to-face and online
training. Having our materials in-house is a convenient way to
continuously monitor and refresh skills, as well as train new
employees.”
The current e-learning curriculum includes the following courses:
- “How to Break Software Security” - 14 hours of course content with additional labs and lab guidance
- “Writing Secure Code” - 14 hours of course content and self-guided development activities. There are also several language and platform-specific modules (e.g., Java, C++, .NET, Linux)
- "Information and Application Security Awareness" – from two to six hours of course content that can be integrated into existing security policies and procedures training.
